It's no secret that the situation of caribou in the Chic-Chocs is precarious. We are extremely fortunate to be able to welcome you to Parc national de la Gaspésie and Réserve faunique de Matane for our event, despite these critical issues.

In order to limit our impact on the disturbance of flora and fauna, particularly caribou, a protocol has been put in place to ensure good cohabitation with this vulnerable species.

The trail's core value

The event takes place in a sensitive natural environment. All those involved in the event are committed to preserve the environment’s equilibrium.

Together, members of the trail running community act as ambassadors for the promotion and preservation of natural spaces.

Medals:

Offer athletes the choice of receiving a medal or not.
Produce the required number of medals and trophies and reuse the balance in inventory.

Equipement:

Reuse equipment in inventory
Repair damaged equipment before replacing it
Borrow or share equipment with other organizations

Waste reduction at the source:

There will be no disposable dishes on site. Participants will need to bring their own bowls for the soup service, utensils and reusable bags for the food served at the refueling stations.
Volunteer meals will be distributed in reusable containers that will be reused at each of our events.
Reduction of all single-use materials and packaging.

Reduction of food waste:

Redistribution of our surplus to the organization Récupération Alimentaire Haute-Gaspésie.

RETHINK

Encourage and promote local products.
Set expectations for our participants about promotional gifts that most often end up being thrown away.
Raising awareness of caribou protection issues in our community by educating people on how to behave in the event of an encounter with an individual.
